How to Delete Your AirChat Account

💡 Good News: Your Privacy is Protected

Because AirChat stores messages only on your device (not in the cloud), account deletion is simpler:

  • We don't have your messages on our servers to delete
  • We only store your basic account profile (name, email, device info)
  • Your messages remain on your device until you uninstall the app
Introduction

We respect your right to delete your AirChat account and personal data. This page explains how to permanently delete your account and what data will be removed.

AirChat offers two methods for account deletion:

  1. In-App Deletion (Coming Soon - Fastest)
  2. Email Request (Currently available)
Important Information Before You Delete
⚠️ What You Should Know
  • Account deletion is permanent and irreversible
  • You will lose access to all premium features immediately (if subscribed)
  • No refunds will be provided for active subscriptions (cancel first if needed)
  • Your user profile will be deleted from our servers
  • Messages on your device will remain until you manually delete them or uninstall the app
  • Messages on other users' devices will NOT be deleted (peer-to-peer nature)
  • You will need to create a new account if you wish to use AirChat again
What Gets Deleted from Our Servers

When you delete your AirChat account, the following data will be permanently removed from our backend:

  • User Profile: Your name, email, and Google account information
  • Authentication Data: Firebase User ID and JWT tokens
  • Device Information: Device IDs and app usage analytics linked to your account
  • Subscription Status: Premium subscription records (billing handled by app stores)
  • Account Activity: Login history and session timestamps
What Remains on Your Device

The following data stored locally on your device will NOT be automatically deleted:

  • Messages: All text messages you've sent and received
  • Media: Photos, videos, files, and voice messages
  • Chat History: Conversation threads and metadata
  • User Profiles: Cached information about users you've chatted with
  • App Preferences: Settings and configurations

To remove this data: You must manually delete chats from within the app, then uninstall AirChat from your device.

What About Messages on Other Users' Devices?
⚠️ Peer-to-Peer Important Note

AirChat uses peer-to-peer communication, which means:

  • Messages you sent are stored on recipients' devices
  • Deleting your account does NOT delete messages from other users' devices
  • Recipients will still have conversations with you unless they manually delete them
  • We have no control over data stored on other users' devices

If you want others to delete conversations with you, you must ask them directly.

Method 1: In-App Account Deletion (Coming Soon)

We're currently implementing in-app account deletion. When available, the fastest way to delete your account will be directly through the AirChat app:

For Android Users (Future Feature):
  1. Open the AirChat app on your Android device
  2. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-left corner
  3. Navigate to Settings
  4. Scroll down to the Account section
  5. Tap "Delete Account"
  6. Read the warning carefully and confirm that you understand the consequences
  7. Tap "Delete My Account Permanently"
  8. Your account will be deleted immediately, and you will be logged out
For iOS Users (Future Feature):
  1. Open the AirChat app on your iOS device
  2. Tap the profile icon in the top-right corner
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Scroll down to the Account Management section
  5. Tap "Delete Account"
  6. Read the warning carefully and confirm that you understand the consequences
  7. Tap "Permanently Delete"
  8. Your account will be deleted immediately, and you will be logged out
Method 2: Email Request for Account Deletion (Currently Available)

You can request account deletion by contacting us via email:

Email Deletion Request Instructions:
  1. Send an email to: [email protected]
  2. Use the subject line: "AirChat - Account Deletion Request"
  3. Include the following information in your email:
    • Your registered email address (used for Google Sign-In)
    • Confirmation statement: "I request permanent deletion of my AirChat account"
    • (Optional) Reason for deletion (helps us improve)
  4. We will verify your identity and process your request within 7 business days
  5. You will receive a confirmation email once your account has been deleted

I understand that this action is irreversible and that all my account data will be permanently deleted from your servers.

Before You Delete: Cancel Active Subscriptions

If you have an active premium subscription (when available), we recommend canceling it before deleting your account to avoid future charges:

For Android (Google Play):
  1. Open the Google Play Store app
  2. Tap your profile icon in the top right
  3. Tap Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions
  4. Find AirChat and tap it
  5. Tap Cancel subscription and confirm
For iOS (Apple App Store):
  1. Open the Settings app on your device
  2. Tap your name at the top
  3. Tap Subscriptions
  4. Find AirChat and tap it
  5. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm

Note: Deleting your account does not automatically cancel your subscription. You must cancel through your app store to stop future billing.

How to Clean Up Local Data Before Uninstalling

To ensure all your messages and media are removed from your device:

Step-by-Step Cleanup:
  1. Delete Individual Chats:
    • Open AirChat
    • Long-press on each conversation
    • Tap "Delete Chat" or the trash icon
    • Confirm deletion
  2. Clear App Data (Android):
    • Go to Settings > Apps > AirChat
    • Tap "Storage"
    • Tap "Clear Data" and "Clear Cache"
  3. Uninstall the App:
    • Long-press the AirChat icon
    • Tap "Uninstall" or drag to "Uninstall"
    • Confirm uninstallation
Data Retention Timeline

After account deletion:

  • Immediate: Your account is deactivated, and you cannot log in
  • Within 7 days: We process your deletion request and remove account data
  • Within 90 days: All backend data including backups are permanently deleted
  • Analytics data: Anonymized and disassociated from your identity immediately
Re-Creating Your Account

If you change your mind and want to use AirChat again:

  • You can create a new account using the same Google account
  • All previous data will be gone (no recovery possible)
  • Previous conversations will NOT be restored
  • Previous premium subscriptions do not carry over (new subscription required)
  • You'll need to re-discover users on your WiFi network
