CrimeFM - Audio Crime Stories

Binaryscript Private Limited ("Company", "we", "us", or "our") operates the CrimeFM mobile application (the "App" or "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use CrimeFM.
Please read this Privacy Policy carefully. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
CrimeFM uses Google Sign-In to create your account. When you sign in, we receive from your Google account:
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your Google profile photo
- Your Google account identifier (a unique ID)
We do not collect a password — authentication is handled entirely by Google.
1.2 Information Created When You Use the App
As you use CrimeFM, we store the following, linked to your account:
- Listening history: which stories and episodes you have played, your playback position, and whether you finished them (this powers "Continue Listening")
- Likes: the stories you mark as liked
- Account timestamps: when your account was created and last signed in
- Notification token: a device messaging token, if you enable notifications, so we can send you alerts about new stories
1.3 Information Collected Automatically
Through the services listed in Section 3, we automatically collect:
- Device information: device model, operating system and version, app version
- Usage and analytics data: features used, stories opened, session activity
- Diagnostic data: crash reports, error logs, performance data
- Technical identifiers: IP address and app-instance / analytics identifiers
1.4 Downloads Are Stored Only on Your Device
When you download a story for offline listening, the audio file and its record are saved locally on your device. This download information is NOT uploaded to us, and it is removed when you delete the download or uninstall the App.
1.5 Payment Information
Where CrimeFM offers a paid subscription or in-app purchase, the transaction is processed entirely by Google Play Billing. We do not collect, store, or have access to your payment card details, bank account information, or UPI credentials. We receive only the purchase and entitlement status needed to unlock paid features on your account.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Create, authenticate and maintain your account
- Deliver audio stories and remember where you left off
- Save your likes and listening history
- Manage your subscription status and entitlements, where applicable
- Send notifications about new content (only if you enable them)
- Understand how the App is used so we can improve it
- Diagnose crashes and fix problems
- Protect the App and our users, and prevent abuse or misuse
- Comply with legal obligations
We do NOT use your information for third-party advertising, and we do NOT sell your personal information.
3. Third-Party Services We Use
CrimeFM relies on the following service providers, who process data on our behalf:
3.1 Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Messaging)
- Purpose: account sign-in, secure data storage, and notification delivery

3.2 Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics (Google)
- Purpose: usage analytics and crash reporting

3.3 Amazon Web Services (S3) and our content delivery network
- Purpose: hosting and streaming of audio files and images. When you stream or download a story, your device's IP address and request details are received by these servers to deliver the file.

3.4 Google Play Services and Google Play Billing
- Purpose: app distribution, core functionality, and processing of any paid subscription or in-app purchase

Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy. We encourage you to review Google's and Amazon's privacy policies.
4. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only:
- With the service providers in Section 3, to operate the App
- If required by law, regulation, legal process, or a valid government request
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of the Company, our users, or the public, and to investigate fraud or abuse
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you of any change in ownership or use of your information
5. Data Storage and Security
Your account data is stored in Google Cloud Firestore, hosted in the Mumbai (asia-south1) region. Some providers (such as analytics and crash reporting) may process data on servers located outside India. By using the App, you consent to such transfer where it occurs.
We protect your information using encryption in transit, access controls, and server-side security rules that restrict each account to its own data. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Data Retention
- We retain your account information for as long as your account is active
- When you delete your account, your profile, likes, and listening history are deleted
- Downloaded audio remains on your device until you remove the download or uninstall the App
- Certain diagnostic or aggregated data that does not identify you may be retained
- We may retain limited information where required to comply with legal obligations, meet tax or accounting requirements for purchases, or resolve disputes
7. Your Rights and Choices
You can:
- Access and update your basic profile information, which comes from your Google account
- Delete your account at any time in the App: Settings → Delete account. This permanently removes your profile, likes, and listening history. See How to Delete Your Account for step-by-step instructions.
- Turn notifications on or off in the App or in your device settings
- Manage or remove downloaded stories from within the App
Indian users have rights under applicable Indian data protection law, including the right to access, correct, and erase personal data, and to grievance redressal (see Section 11). To exercise any right, contact us at [email protected].
8. Children's Privacy
CrimeFM contains mature themes and is intended for users aged 17 and older. It is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age required for consent in their jurisdiction. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Notifications
If you enable notifications, we use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send alerts about new stories and updates. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings; this does not affect your ability to use the rest of the App.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version in the App and update the "Last Updated" date above. Material changes may also be notified in-app. Your continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

In accordance with the Information Technology Act, 2000, the rules made thereunder, and applicable Indian data protection law, the contact details of the Grievance Officer are:
